Philip Kakuru

Philip Kakuru is a fintech executive with over 13 years of experience shaping Rwanda’s digital financial services ecosystem. As Senior Manager, Products & Services at Mobile Money Rwanda, he leads initiatives that expand financial inclusion, scale digital payments, and drive innovative financial solutions nationwide.
Philip has also led major national initiatives, including digitizing agricultural value chains reducing farmer payment cycles from 20 days to 24 hours and scaling Rwanda’s digital commerce ecosystem through the MTN Open API, growing e-commerce integrations from 3 to over 100 players.
He played a key role in expanding mobile money remittances, connecting Rwanda to 40+ sending and 100+ receiving countries, and scaling MoMoPay, growing the merchant network from 35,000 to over 620,000 businesses. He also advanced digital lending solutions, enabling over 1 million Rwandans to access more than RWF 25 billion in credit.
Philip holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and Banking and is recognized for building scalable, human-centered financial innovations that drive economic empowerment and digital growth.
