Dotun Adekunle

Dotun Daniel Adekunle is a seasoned fintech and technology leader with over 20 years of cross-continental experience in payments, financial technology, and enterprise systems. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer at OPay, where he leads strategic operations, product innovation, and technology execution to advance financial inclusion across Africa’s emerging markets.

Since his appointment in July 2024, Dotun has overseen the integration of robust operational processes with a forward-looking technology strategy at one of Africa’s most dynamic fintech platforms. Under his leadership, OPay has strengthened service reliability, accelerated product development cycles, and reinforced its infrastructure to support millions of users and merchants daily.

Before resuming his role at OPay, Dotun was Senior Vice President of Offline Payments at Flutterwave (2022 - 2024), where he drove the expansion of physical payments infrastructure across key African markets. His earlier tenure at OPay (2018 - 2022) included leadership roles in engineering, product development, and technology strategy, contributing significantly to the company’s rapid scale and market impact.

Dotun’s professional journey reflects a consistent commitment to building resilient digital financial ecosystems that bridge access gaps and unlock economic participation for individuals and small businesses.

He pursued an MBA at the University of Roehampton, and holds a postgraduate diploma in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, having studied Computer Science at undergraduate level at Yaba College of Technology. His academic and leadership credentials reinforce his influence in shaping Africa’s fintech landscape.
