Am a career Central Banker with experience spanning over 34 years, during which i have contributed immensely towards Policy formulation and the development of National Payment Systems in Kenya and the East African region, as well as Financial and Capital Markets, Banking Operations.
I am passionate about driving efficiency and safety in Payment Systems and Banking Operations. I was part of the team that was instrumental in the formulation of the regulatory framework that led to the launch of the pioneer mobile money in Kenya (MPESA), the procurement and implementation of the Kenya's RTGS system, the drafting of the National Payments Regulatory Framework and the development of the East Africa Payment System (EAPS), together the oversight framework for EAPS and the EAPS Rules and Operations Procedures. He is currently Head of the Licensing of Payment Service Providers at the Central Bank of Kenya and a member of the Technical Working Committee, for the ongoing NPS Law Review. I am also a trainer of trainers and has conducted several trainings for Central Bankers in Payment Systems in Kenya and the East African region.
I have also worked in Central Bank of Kenya Departments responsible for Financial Markets, issuance and management of Government debt instruments, Internal Audit, Finance and Banking Operations. As a member of the Bond Markets Development Committee and the National Payment System Operations committee, Mike participated in the Capital market and National Payment Systems development and modernization initiatives.
