Progress on Digital Finance

In 2023, Africa accounted for 48% of the 1.6bn globally registered
mobile money account and 70% of 85bn transaction volume, proving
to be a leading figure in leveraging digital tools to provide and improve
financial services. However, the benefits of digital technology are not
spreading as far and wide as it should; Africa is lagging behind the
global average of 76% in account ownership in 2021 with the average
for Sub-Saharan at 55%. This session will focus on how Africa can fully
embrace the increased digitalization of its economics.
