Dominique Uwase Alonga is a Rwandan author, social entrepreneur, and publishing executive, best known as the Founder and CEO of Imagine We Rwanda (Imagine We Publishers), a Kigali based publishing house and literacy initiative created to grow a stronger reading and storytelling culture through books that reflect Rwandan and African life. She began her career building youth-focused literacy and creativity programs, then expanded into publishing to address the shortage of locally relevant reading material for young readers.
Her work has been recognized through several notable awards and leadership selections. She is documented by the World Bank as a winner of the 2016 #Blog4Dev contest for Rwanda, and is also a recipient of Imbuto Foundation’s Celebrating Young Rwandan Achievers (CYRWA) recognition. She was selected as an Obama Foundation Leaders Africa participant (2018 cohort profile), and Rwandan media has covered her participation in Obama Foundation programming and her reflections from the conference. She has also been featured in local coverage noting recognition on the “One Hundred Most Influential Young Africans” list (Africa Youth Awards, 2018).
Under her leadership, Imagine We has positioned itself around inclusive African storytelling and youth literacy, with a model that includes publishing, author development, school support, and initiatives to improve access to relevant reading content. External profiles have also highlighted how the organization evolved from book donation and literacy programming into a publishing platform focused on local relevance, and how it accelerated digital-first efforts during the COVID-19 period.
